Trinity Engine

Trinity is the graphics module of the Carbon engine, the foundation EVE Online is built on. The name comes from the 2007 expansion of the same name, which overhauled the game's visuals for Shader Model 3.0 — realistic lighting, HDR effects, and rebuilt ship models. Trinity has kept evolving ever since: in 2025, CCP moved rendering to a GPU-driven pipeline, boosting frame rates by 10–30% even on decade-old graphics cards. In the summer of 2026, CCP (now operating as Fenris Creations) open-sourced the entire Carbon framework, including Trinity — a rare move for technology that's kept a living virtual world running continuously for more than two decades.
