Ymir Engine is the in-house technology of Korean studio Ymir Entertainment (later absorbed by Webzen), built for Metin2 (2004) — the direct sequel to the 2D game Metin from 1998. The jump from Metin to Metin2 wasn't just a story sequel, it was a technological leap for the studio: the engine moved from flat 2D graphics to its own 3D technology, while deliberately keeping an isometric style and modest hardware requirements to stay accessible on the early-2000s Korean mass market. That foundation is what powers Metin2's signature action-oriented hack-and-slash combat, which carried the game to an international release and more than two decades of continuous support under Gameforge in Europe.
