Mainframe Industries rolled out a 7-Day Trial for Pax Dei on Steam. Unlike a standard free weekend that shows up once a season and disappears, this one is staying in the store permanently, so anyone can pick it up whenever they're curious.

The seven days come with the full game, not a stripped-down demo. During that window, players can:

  • explore freely and join a clan;
  • claim a temporary plot and build a home on it;
  • craft and gather resources;
  • trade with other players;
  • take part in PvE and PvP with no cap on character progress.

Once the week runs out, the plot doesn't vanish right away. There's a three-day grace period, after which everything on it gets moved into a redeeming queue and waits there until the game is purchased. Characters and progress stay on the servers indefinitely either way. Players can run the trial again after 90 days, which looks like a straightforward way to pull back anyone who walked away without buying.

The trial landed right after two updates that changed a fair amount under the hood. R46 moved Pax Dei onto Unreal Engine 5.6. It didn't add new content, but it rewrote the NPC aggro system that used to wreck dungeon runs with mobs pulling for no reason, and it brought real frame-rate gains along with DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4 frame generation support. R47 followed with bird hunting, an archery overhaul built around new recurve bows, and an achievement system with almost three hundred goals tracked through a dedicated HUD panel.

Anyone trying Pax Dei for the first time through the trial is walking into good timing. The technical groundwork just got tightened up, and there's a real chunk of new content behind it, so this isn't the roughest version of the game to start with.
