Overwatch has held one of the lowest entry bars of any modern team shooter for years, and the reason is architectural: the game runs on Blizzard's own in-house engine, built specifically to hold a stable 60+ frames on mainstream hardware rather than borrowed from Unreal or Unity with their heavier default overhead. The minimum CPU listed is genuinely a decade old at this point, and even a modest Intel Core i3 handles it without stutter, because the game is calculating tight 5v5 arenas rather than an open world stuffed with hundreds of active objects.
The entry-level GTX 600-series card reflects the same design philosophy: stylized, deliberately non-photorealistic art doesn't need modern rendering horsepower to stay sharp and readable mid-fight. The recommended GTX 1060 exists mostly to hold high, stable framerates at competitive resolutions rather than to change what the game actually looks like โ the base experience is already clean and legible on minimum settings.
6 to 8 GB of RAM is generous by genre standards, because matches are short, maps don't stream in continuously, and the hero roster's models are pre-cached by the engine rather than loaded on the fly. The 50 GB storage footprint has grown mostly from years of accumulated skins, voice lines, and cinematics โ none of that legacy content can be trimmed, since the progression and collection systems are built around owning the full cosmetic library.
Blizzard hasn't officially revised these specs in several years, and they don't separately account for Stadium mode's third-person camera load โ in practice, it performs about the same as the standard game modes.
