Vawraek Technology rolled out a massive 22.8 GB content update for its medieval MMO, The Quinfall. With no official patch notes published on the game's Steam store page, the colossal download size caught many players off guard. For a project built on the Unity engine, such an immense download stems from a complete repackaging of AssetBundles required to introduce newly settled regions, tribal camps, and territorial altar zones. The centerpiece of this update is the Worker System, which seamlessly fuses thrall subjugation from Conan Exiles with node automation from Black Desert.
Alongside the patch, 13 indigenous tribes were introduced across three core biomes (Northern lands, Meadowlands, and Endless Sands). Each tribe possesses distinct cultural and genetic proficiencies: for instance, the plains-dwelling Varkhenn clan excels in martial arts, while other societies specialize in metallurgy, harvesting, or agriculture.
Capturing laborers is structured as a dedicated combat loop. Players must forge a blunt wooden Truncheon at a blacksmith bench and locate indigenous settlements. While civilian camp workers remain neutral, attacking anyone triggers an immediate settlement-wide brawl. Knockout scaling utilizes an inverse health ratio: the lower an NPC target's health drops, the greater the blunt concussive damage dealt by the truncheon. Once unconscious, captives are bound with a Lasso purchased from urban Mount Keepers and dragged back to base. Movement speed must be carefully controlled, as sprinting or mounting up will snap the rope and free the captive.
Subjugating captives requires constructing a Torture Bench within a personal or clan altar boundary—the game's equivalent of the Wheel of Pain—which can be self-crafted or purchased from city Construction Workers. Breaking their will demands consumable Worker Badges corresponding to their tier from city managers, as well as a steady supply of craftable Worker Food to maintain operational efficiency.
Subdued thralls specialize across 7 dedicated vocations, earning personal EXP as they perform their duties:
- Dancers: stationed within rest areas to broadcast stacking attribute buffs to their master while steadily accumulating EXP over time.
- Gatherers: autonomously roam the altar territory, harvesting ore, wood, and herbs directly into their bags while earning EXP per node.
- Workstation Workers: assigned to crafting stations to accelerate production queues and provide RNG chances to craft bonus duplicate items.
- Farmers: fully automate crop irrigation within their radius using Fresh Water stocked in their inventory slots.
- Animal Husbandry Workers: tend to livestock pens, feeding animals from player-provided rations.
- Caravan Workers: stationed at altars to passively multiply raw silver payouts from incoming trade caravans based on their tier.
- Warriors: boast top-tier combat stats, serving as static perimeter guards for altar strongholds or escorting the player as armed bodyguards, leveling up from mob kills.
The system is tailored for large-scale guild management. Solo adventurers can support up to 50 thralls at a private altar, while clan strongholds accommodate up to 200 workers (with open-world escorts strictly limited to one warrior companion). During territory sieges, destroyed structures place thralls into a dormant reserve for later reassignment rather than killing them.
The defining hardcore feature is permadeath for combat thralls. While workers level up and unlock the full potential of equipped gear, any companion killed in PvE or PvP combat is permanently erased along with all equipped weapons and armor (only store-bought cosmetic costumes are returned by mail). This makes losing a veteran follower an agonizing setback.
To complete the economic circuit, Vawraek officially sanctioned player-driven thrall trading. Any trained, leveled, and equipped worker can be converted into an inventory token and sold on the Central Market. This opens up a lucrative trade for dedicated slave hunters who capture, break, and sell high-tier workers to wealthy guilds looking to skip the manual grind.
