Fishing went live across Royal Quest Online's servers on August 28, right after an extended maintenance window. Lesta Games had run the mechanic through an open beta from August 21 to 24, and the rod was only half the point of that test: the studio was also stress-checking new server hardware under real load.

Access opens at level 23. The starting point is Rub de Guizier in Triozerye, who runs the Young Angler's Course and covers the basics. From there you need three things: a rod, bait that suits the region, and a marked spot by the water. Signposts flag those spots in the world, while a fishing icon marks them on the map.

Casting is a reaction check rather than a waiting game. When the buff icon changes and an exclamation mark appears above your character, you use the rod a second time. Too early or too late and the fish gets away. Time it right and the catch goes straight into your pocket, with the result printed in chat.

Six grounds hold 18 species split across common, rare and legendary tiers: Central Region, Wolf Lands, Scorching Desert, Blighted Swamps, Fallen Valley and Obykan Highlands. Bait is regional, so a swamp trip with desert stock ends before it starts unless you packed the universal kind. Camping one pond simply pays worse than touring all six.

Four items shape a session:

  • Rod. Better rods pull better loot, but any rod can snap mid-session and vanish from the inventory, so spares are worth carrying.
  • Bait. Consumed on every cast; bought from NPC anglers, crafted from a recipe, or fished up along the way.
  • Groundbait. Applied before casting to speed the whole loop up over a long stretch at the water.
  • Fishing Oracle. Points at a random spot where bonus loot temporarily appears, which is a reason to pack up and move.

The hook pulls up more than fish. Cards, lunchboxes, consumables, spare bait and small trophies all sit in the loot table. Fish go back to NPC anglers for FishCoins, the activity's own currency, which buys tackle and other rewards at dedicated fishing shops. Daily quests pay in the same coin and steer players toward grounds they would otherwise skip.

The design team has been open about the constraints it worked under. Fishing had to relax without boring anyone, stay useful without becoming mandatory, and above all leave the economy intact. The result is a closed loop: catch, sell, restock, head back to the water. For a game that has run on mob grinding and PvP for over a decade, it is the first peaceful activity built out to this scale.

Store promotions landed the same day with a run of sea-themed chests, the main one live until September 8, alongside the ongoing Seasonal Adventure event. Anyone past level 23 can start immediately: take the course, stock up on bait, find a signpost by the water.
