Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft have deployed Title Update Y8S3.1 across all live platforms for The Division 2. Codenamed Red Moon Rising, this release aims to revitalize endgame farming while giving players a stress-free alternative to the cutthroat griefing and rogue ambushes typical of traditional Dark Zones. The centerpiece of the update is the Red Moon Rising seasonal event, live now through November 3.

The event recontextualizes the Dark Zone as an isolated PvE gauntlet overrun by entrenched Black Tusk battalions. Under the eerie glow of the crimson sky, SHD tech suffers structural disruptions, giving rise to the Red Moon Stacks mechanic. Instead of scanning corners for rogue players, agents face an internal risk-versus-reward battle: the longer you farm landmarks and maintain uptime, the more stacks you accumulate. Higher stacks confer massive offensive amplifiers at the cost of escalating personal vulnerability. Greed comes at a steep price: dying, evacuating contaminated cargo via helicopter, or exiting the zone instantly wipes all stacks to zero. Safehouses serve as the only designated sanctuaries to pause stack progression.

High-risk clears reward agents with curated Named gear, Prototype components, and two brand-new Exotic pieces:

  • Vertigo (GR9 Exotic LMG): Powered by the Startling talent, forcing an enemy into the Suppressed state immediately inflicts Disorient while granting the user and their squad a flat +30% Damage to Targets Out of Cover for 15 seconds, instantly carving out a top-tier role in coordinated group clearing.
  • Sarru (Exotic Backpack): Introduces an eight-phase lunar cycle that shifts every 5 seconds during active combat. Outbound damage ramps in 5% increments from a New Moon all the way to a crushing +25% Amplified Damage during a Full Moon. Dropping a Decoy skill during the Full Moon grants the device immediate Overcharge and pauses the cycle, locking in the peak 25% damage boost for 10 seconds.
  • The encounter roster also welcomes back The Recruiter as an active target, allowing operatives to claim his signature cosmetic mask.

The seasonal cadence continues with the Rage Harvest global event returning from September 29 to October 6, tasking agents with punching through enemy Overheal layers to fuel their own handling, fire rate, and critical hit spikes. Progression boosters sweeten the grind: Dark Zone Surge offers 3x DZ XP with zero penalty upon death, transitioning next week into double Countdown Requisitions. Crucially, the update stamps out prevalent PvP exploits: players can no longer self-destruct friendly deployables to cheese kill-triggered talents, the Prima Donna rifle's instant revive glitch has been patched out, and runaway stacking on Adrenaline Rush and Bloodsucker has been corrected. Complete modifier adjustments are cataloged in the official TUY8S3.1 patch notes.
