Following weeks of targeted community feedback after the launch of the Dragonfire expansion, Sandbox Interactive has rolled out Dragonfire Patch 2 (version 32.020.1). This comprehensive update serves as a major corrective overhaul. The studio directly addresses the poor risk-to-reward economy in the new dragon endgame, introduces substantial balance adjustments across eight weapon lines, and restructures encounter pacing to eliminate boss cheese strategies.

Endgame loot tables have been thoroughly reworked to match the deadly nature of full-loot encounters:

  • Within the Dragon Sanctuary, baseline chest payouts are up by 100% on average, while the drop rate for the prized Drake Egg in the final chest has skyrocketed by 400%.
  • Ancient Lands caches received flat loot increases of 50% in Medium territories and 140% in Large zones.
  • Orange-zone Ancient Lands now implement Item Freeze: entering via the portal freezes a player's starting inventory and equipped gear, shielding it from death drops. Only items gathered inside the instance drop upon death.
  • Island chest sniping has been eliminated: objective chests on outer islands now require full quest completion, preventing solo runners from swiping loot from groups actively summoning the Fire Drake.
  • Outlands Dragon Attacks now yield double chest loot, with Fame delivered directly through the Might payout rather than non-tradable Tomes, ensuring every group participant benefits. Giant aggro range has been reduced from 11m to 8m, and Spirit Weaver sleep duration has been halved to 2 seconds.

The combat update reshapes the meta across ZvZ brawls, small-scale skirmishes, and duels:

  • Axes: Internal Bleeding damage-over-time can no longer be reflected. Frontline bruisers in ZvZ will no longer wipe themselves when applying bleed stacks into clashing enemy reflect walls. Halberd gains AoE escalation on Tear Apart's crowd-control resistance debuff.
  • Holy Staffs: The dominant Holy Flash heal has been nerfed from 117 down to 106 to open space for competing support lines. Divine Protection now refunds elapsed cast time for Divinity's Grace, lowering remaining cooldown. Crucially, a bug allowing the Reawaken resurrection spell to target enemy players has been patched.
  • Nature Staffs: Thorn Growth no longer resets auto-attack cooldowns, streamlining spell weaving.
  • Quarterstaffs: Rising Blow now inflicts a 15% CC resistance reduction for 4 seconds, reinforcing its identity as a primary lockdown tool.
  • Shapeshifter Staffs: Wild Onslaught fear duration on the Primal Staff has been boosted from 1.0s to 1.2 seconds.
  • Spears: Trinity Spear pivots away from auto-attack stat-checking toward direct skill shots. Spectral Trident impact damage increases from 191.6 to 220, balanced by reducing the attack speed buff from 85% to 75%.
  • Swords: Dual Swords gain CC immunity against Polymorph effects during Spinning Blades jumps. Infinity Blade's Limitbreaker now refunds elapsed combo delay back into its cooldown.
  • Armor: Wings of Fire on the Dragonslayer Jacket has been capped with a 10% maximum energy cost, while Knight Helmet's Displacement Immunity uptime jumps to 28% with duration increased from 6 to 7 seconds.

Boss encounters also underwent serious refinement. The Maeve encounter pacing has been restructured: Storm Spires now trigger at 60% HP (previously 80%), Rock Spikes at 80% HP (previously 60%), and Double Rock Spikes at 40% HP. Boulder Stomp wave speed was reduced by 10% and base hit damage dialed down from 1000 to 800, compensated by a stacking +5% vulnerability debuff lasting 75 seconds. Maeve can no longer be crowd-controlled prior to pull, arena geometry prevents stuck boulders, and several of her abilities are no longer reflectable. Additionally, Azaryon now enters an enrage state if groups attempt to trap him in pathing exploits.

Key quality-of-life updates include native clipboard export and import for Loadouts, a minimap ping when closing in on Tracking targets, and commemorative Season 33 statues in Conqueror's Hall. The full numerical patch breakdown is available in the official Dragonfire Patch 2 notes.
