Vahnora Studios has rolled out major update 1.5 for its free-to-play 3D MMORPG Vahnora, shaking up the game's solo grind loop. The patch introduces two distinct class archetypes — the Bard and the Necromancer. Alongside them, the gates have opened to the game's first dedicated group dungeon, The Sunken Vein, where health potions are completely disabled, while the newly established Awakening Altar in Eldora unlocks power progression for Tier 11 gear.
The Bard and Necromancer: Crowd control dance and endless undead
The Bard steps onto the battlefield wielding a lute and built for group utility. War Chord grants allies an attack speed steroid while slowing down surrounding enemies. Broken Note shields the party and silences foes, locking down incoming abilities. Playing both songs back-to-back triggers Soft Melody, healing the group while increasing damage taken by hostile targets. The Bard's trump card is his ultimate, Forced Dance. It forces all monsters and enemy players within range into an unavoidable dance, preventing movement, auto-attacks, and skill casting. The Mythic ring Songsworn allows players to specialize further into Battle Hymn, Warding Refrain, or Perfect Tempo.
The Necromancer commands a two-handed war scythe and a restless legion of the dead. Raise the Dead summons three distinct skeleton types: crowd-controlling Thralls, ranged Thrall Archers, and tanky Thrall Brutes. They hold the frontline while the Necromancer siphons vitality through Drain Life. Every enemy slain nearby leaves behind a soul: collecting these souls on the run restores health and supercharges minion stats. His ultimate, Crypt Army, summons a ring of Crypt Wardens that pulverize everything in their path.
The Sunken Vein: Potion bans and lethal boss screams
Beneath the Golden Plains quarry lies the entrance to The Sunken Vein, Vahnora's first true group dungeon. Flooded shafts and blazing furnaces are guarded by three mini-bosses leading to a final encounter featuring a lethal scream mechanic. When the boss roars, party members must clear the area immediately or wipe. Crucially, healing potions are disabled inside the instance. Solo brute-forcing is gone: tanks must absorb crushing physical strikes, healers must sustain the party constantly, and DPS players have to stay vigilant of ground hazards.
Clearing the dungeon awards pieces from the newly introduced Tier 11 gear bracket. To unlock their full potential, players visit the Awakening Altar in the overhauled city of Eldora, trading Essences and Core Fragments to awaken item stats toward their caps.
Class-specific armor and balanced PvP duels
Update 1.5 also overhauls class identity and gear stat distributions. Tank armor now exclusively grants health and defense, while damage-dealer gear focuses purely on offensive output. Legendary affixes only drop for the class currently being played. Tanks also received reliable threat mechanics: the Paladin's Divine Aegis locks a targeted boss in place, while the Warrior's Rupture holds monster packs as an effective off-tank.
In PvP, encounter pace has been rebalanced to eliminate instant burst windows. Duel duration has increased, crowd control effects last longer, and block chance along with armor penetration now function properly against enemy players. Repeated in-combat healing and lifesteal have been scaled back, meaning runaway sustain can no longer carry a duel. Two coordinated, moderately geared players can now take down a fully geared lone wolf.
Guild wars, Mortis Pass relics, and bestiary rewards
Guild rivalries now feature official declarations of war. Hostile guild members display red nameplates, and all encounter casualties are logged directly to the web-based Killboard. Over at Mortis Pass, Reliquary Guardians have received major stat boosts, turning relic extractions into an operation that demands a full party escort.
The in-game Bestiary has also shifted from a simple index into a source of permanent account upgrades. Reaching levels 15, 25, and 50 of monster mastery grants increased damage against that creature, reduced incoming damage from it, higher drop rates, and an exclusive title frame. Inspecting drop tables is now as simple as Shift-clicking any creature in the field.
