EVE Online defines its corner of the genre along a few specific axes: one shared server for every player, an economy where nearly every item was built by another person, and territorial wars that can run for years. Games that feel similar usually inherit one or two of these traits, rarely all of them at once.
Look for a fully player-run market with no developer shop, meaningful stakes on death (full loot or a real ISK-equivalent cost), and an open world whose borders are held by other players rather than quest design. The sci-fi setting itself is the least important part of the comparison.
